Prof Chien-Jen Chen
Prof. Chien-Jen Chen is a distinguished research fellow of Genomics Research Center, Academia Sinica and professor of Graduate Institute of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, National Taiwan University. He has carried out many important epidemiological researches on health hazards and molecular biomarkers of chronic arsenic poisoning. His research team has well documented the dose-response relationship between long-term arsenic exposure and various diseases including skin lesions, cancers, vascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, neuropathy, mental retardation, cataract, pterygium and erectile dysfunction. His study findings are used to set up the maximal contamination level of arsenic in drinking water in the USA and many countries.

Currently a senior scientist of 32 years experience with the U.S. Geological Survey, Dr. D. Kirk Nordstrom is recognized internationally for his research on acid mine drainage, arsenic geochemistry, geothermal chemistry, radioactive waste disposal, thermodynamic data evaluation, and geochemical modeling. He majored in chemistry with a B.A. from Southern Illinois University, his M.S. is in Geology from University of Colorado, and his Ph.D. is in Applied Earth Sciences from Stanford University. He has more than 220 publications including a textbook with Jim Munoz on Geochemical Thermodynamics, has consulted with numerous domestic and foreign governments, and collaborated with many university researchers. Dr. Nordstrom received the Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lectureship Award, the Ingerson International Lectureship Award, the Meritorious Service and the Cooperative Conservation Awards from the Interior Department, and he is a fellow of the Geological Society of America and the Mineralogical Society of America.
